Semaglutide is commonly used for weight loss in people who are obese or who are overweight and have other health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol.
Semaglutide is used to lower the risk of cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, or death) in people who have heart disease and are either overweight or obese.
Semaglutide may also be used for other conditions as determined by your healthcare provider.
Semaglutide works by reducing appetite and slowing down the movement of food through your body.
Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It assists in weight loss. After 68 weeks, half of the participants using semaglutide lost 15% of their body weight, and nearly a third lost 20%. Participants who incorporated only lifestyle changes lost about 2.4% of their weight. Since then, additional studies have shown similar results.
Weight Loss Consultations are FREE at our office and can be done by appointment or on a Walk-In Wednesday.
